What We Believe

Our Hope

"I am the way, and the truth and the life..." –John 14:6
Jesus Christ was miraculously born of a virgin and lived a perfect human existence. He died by crucifixion on the cross as the perfect, holy sacrifice to satisfy the righteous demands of God. He was raised from the dead after being entombed three days and now reigns eternally sitting at the right hand of God the Father being given all authority in heaven and on earth. Trusting in His work on the cross and confessing sin and turning from it bring a person into permanent fellowship with God and provide the only basis for living.

We at Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church are convinced that life's only hope is found in the King and Head of the Christian Church—in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We believe in One God who exists in three Persons - the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.God is the Creator of all things and the Sovereign Ruler and Sustainer of all things. Apart from His will, nothing exists.

We believe the writings of the Old and New Testament to be God's Word and to be without error. These two testaments provide the only infallible rule for faith and life. By means of God's Word we can know for certain what is true and right and by means of this Word we can know what is good and what is evil.

We believe that all men are by nature rebellious against God. This is called sin and separates us from our Creator. Because all men have sinned, all men are under the condemnation due to sin, death. Only by turning from our sins and by trusting Jesus Christ as Savior are we forgiven and brought into fellowship with God.

Our Goal

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,...teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you... " –Matthew 28:19
The goal of Christ's Church is the discipling of all nations. This requires a complete and personal surrender of our lives for remaking by the Word of God. The truths of the Bible must permeate and then dominate our thoughts, our family life, our recreation, our business, our politics, our entire world view. Our goal is the reformation of the world through the power of the Gospel.

Our Worship

"The people whom I formed for Myself will declare My praise." –Isaiah 43:21
Every week on the Lord’s Day the Triune God graciously calls us together in order to serve us. Yes, we gather to be served by God. This is fundamental for us. God brings us together in His presence to give us gifts; we gather at His call to receive His good gifts and to respond with thanksgiving and praise.

For this reason, Sunday must be central in the life of our congregation. On this day, we are cleansed from sin, renewed in our faith and trust in Jesus, instructed by His Word, and strengthened as a community at the Table for sacrificial living in His kingdom.

Every Sunday the congregation assembles to take full advantage of every good gift the Lord Himself desires to give us. We receive the gifts of the ministry of the Word and Sacrament in the morning service. In the afternoon we rest from our normal six-day work. Finally, we conclude the day by returning in the evening for another time of praise, prayer, Bible teaching and fellowship.

Our Church Government

". . . appoint elders in every city." –Titus 1:5
We believe that God has ordained a form of church government in which "elders" are chosen from among the members. These elders exercise God's authority over the church and are accountable to God for the well-being of each member. This government is described as presbyterian rather than congregational or episcopal.

Our Invitation

". . . standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith. . . ." –Phillipians 1:27
We extend to you our invitation to attend any of our meetings of worship, Bible study, or prayer. We invite you to join with us as we seek to glorify the Lord in all that we do.
